šŸšŸ‚AUTUMN HAZARDS FOR YOUR PETS šŸ‚šŸ

We are firmly in Autumn now, I played my first game of 'leaf or poop' today, so we definitely are!

Here is a list of some things that are toxic to pets that are often about at this time of year and how to keep your pets safe:

🌰 Horse Chestnuts, Acorns & Oak Leaves

These can cause stomach upset, drooling, and vomiting. Acorns contain tannins, which can be toxic to dogs, and both can pose choking or blockage risks.

🌽 Corn Cobs

While corn itself isn’t toxic, cobs can easily cause life-threatening intestinal blockages if swallowed.

šŸ‡ Grapes & Raisins

Even a small amount can cause acute kidney failure in dogs and cats. Avoid sharing fruit snacks, baked goods, or trail mixes containing these.

šŸ„ Wild Mushrooms

Autumn is mushroom season — and many wild varieties are highly poisonous to pets. Symptoms can include vomiting, drooling, seizures, and liver failure.

🌿 Autumn Plants

Plants like chrysanthemums, lilies, ivy, and cyclamen can all be toxic. Check any seasonal bouquets or planters before bringing them indoors.

šŸŽƒ Raw, Mouldy or Spiced Pumpkin or Squash

While plain, cooked pumpkin can be healthy, raw, mouldy, or spiced versions (especially with nutmeg) can upset your pet’s stomach or be toxic.

šŸ•Æļø Candles & Essential Oils

Scented candles and diffusers may contain harmful oils (like tea tree, eucalyptus, or cinnamon). Keep them out of reach, and never leave pets unsupervised near flames.

šŸ¬ Halloween Sweets

Chocolate, xylitol (in sugar-free candy), and wrappers are all dangerous for pets.

šŸž Uncooked Bread Dough

Yeast dough can expand in a pet’s stomach, leading to painful bloating or even alcohol poisoning from fermenting yeast.

🄜 Walnuts, Macadamia & Salted Nuts

Certain nuts are toxic, while salted varieties can cause dehydration or pancreatitis.

ā„ļø Antifreeze & De-Icers

Ethylene glycol (found in antifreeze) tastes sweet but is extremely toxic. Even a few drops can be fatal.
